The river is located 145 kilometers from Puerto Varas. It flows from Lake Puelo in Argentina through fertile valleys in Chile and on to the Reloncavi estuary. The landscape of the riverside is very interesting. There are a few villagers who live in very rustic conditions and are descendants of settlers who arrived in the 19th century. It is an unpredictable river, and it has wonderful surprises for those who keep an eye out for them. Rainbow and Brown trout as well as salmon like Atlantic, Chinook, and Coho can be found in this area. The fishing season for the Puelo River starts on September 09th and ends the Last Sunday of May Like most rivers close to the Andes, from about the 15th of December to the 25th of January is the season of "Tabanos", which are a rather annoying horsefly. To combat these, we recommend a good repellent and the use of light colored clothing.
